Please join us on Sunday, September 23, 2012, for the third annual Heat It To Beat It walk to support peritoneal carcinomatosis awareness, education, and research. The event begins and ends at Rash Field on the south side of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Peritoneal carcinomatosis is a common and complex cancer found in the abdominal cavity and can originate from tumors of the appendix, colon, rectum, ovary, stomach, and small bowel, and from primary peritoneal tumors and mesothelioma. Dr. Armando Sardi, director of the Institute for Cancer Care at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland, and his colleague Dr. Vadim Gushchin, are among the few surgical oncologists in the world who specialize in the treatment of peritoneal carcinomatosis using heated chemotherapy (HIPEC). For many patients, this is the only chance for long-term survival. Although scientific reports show the benefit of this treatment, there is a lack of awareness about the disease and patients often struggle to be correctly diagnosed and treated. Proceeds from this event will support education and awareness efforts and research conducted by Dr. Sardi and his colleagues at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore. Together, we can help save lives.
